The complete style guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA) are in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association; the sixth edition is the most recent. The sample APA paper format Word documents we provide here follow some of those guidelines, but most graduate schools have their own style guides as well. Whenever a rule conflicts, follow your own institution’s rule.
APA formatted theses and dissertations are divided into several sections, some of which are optional and depend on the requirements of the subject and the institution. Page numbering often differs among the sections.
